All 2nd Hand Smoke (including weed) is Dangerous

Vapes emit toxic fumes!

Secondhand smoke is dangerous whether it comes from direct smoking or passive nonvoluntary inhalation of smoke fumes or vaping aerosols.

Constituents of Secondhand Aerosol

Electronic smoking devices (ESDs) do not just emit “harmless water vapor.” Secondhand aerosol (incorrectly called vapor by the industry) from ESDs contains nicotine, ultrafine particles and low levels of toxins that are known to cause cancer.

ESD aerosol is made up of a high concentration of ultrafine particles, and the particle concentration is higher than in conventional tobacco cigarette smoke.

Exposure to fine and ultrafine particles may exacerbate respiratory ailments like asthma, and constrict arteries which could trigger a heart attack.

ESD aerosol particles are smaller than 1000 nanometers, which is a similar size to tobacco smoke and diesel engine smoke, and bystanders can be exposed to this aerosol.

“The exact size distribution depends on the chemical composition of the electronic cigarette liquid, the e-cigarette device operation, and user vaping preferences.”

At least 10 chemicals identified in ESD aerosol are on California’s Proposition 65 list of carcinogens and reproductive toxins, also known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986.  For more information: https://tobaccofreeca.com/topics/secondhand-smoke/

What we do know so far is that vape aerosol contains a number of harmful substances, including:

(1) nicotine

(2)  ultrafine particles

(3) various other toxins, including several cancer-causing agents

There’s evidence that nonsmokers exposed to secondhand vape aerosol absorb similar levels of nicotine as people exposed to secondhand cigarette smoke.

Along with nicotine, non-vapers are also exposed to ultrafine particles from secondhand vape aerosol, which may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Secondhand vape aerosol also contains several known carcinogens that may increase the risk of certain cancers.

These carcinogens include:

lead

formaldehyde

toluene

All secondhand smoke, including marijuana, is dangerous!

Big Tobacco, Vape, and Cannabis industries want us to believe that tobacco and cannabis smoke smells wonderful and is good for everyone’s health. Science says the opposite is true!

Please protect your health and others from these air toxins!

If you live in an apartment or condo, avoid exposing neighbors to secondhand smoke & vape toxins which damage lungs and the immune system.

Medical pot users:  use nonflammable replacements such as lozenges or edibles.

Here is what these industries do not want us to know...

California Department of Public Health:   Secondhand marijuana smoke contains many of the same chemicals and carcinogens as secondhand tobacco smoke.

Results from laboratory testing under standard conditions found that secondhand marijuana smoke contained more than twice as much tar and ammonia as tobacco smoke, and more than eight times as much hydrogen cyanide.

Harvard University: Smoking marijuana can damage the cells in the bronchial passages which protect the body against inhaled microorganisms and decrease the ability of the immune cells in the lungs to fight off fungi, bacteria, and tumor cells.

For patients with already weakened immune systems, this means an increase in the possibility of dangerous pulmonary infections, including pneumonia, which often proves fatal in AIDS patients.

Studies further suggest that marijuana is a general "immunosuppressant" whose degenerative influence extends beyond the respiratory system.

Regular smoking has been shown to materially affect the overall ability of the smoker’s body to defend itself against infection by weakening various natural immune mechanisms, including macrophages (a.k.a. "killer cells") and the all-important T-cells.

Dr. Shawn Meirovici, a Toronto, Canada-based medical marijuana physician, said:  immune-suppressing properties mentioned earlier could potentially prolong a viral infection. “ Heat and smoke are the last things your throat needs when it’s already itchy and sore.

Then, imagine hot smoke entering phlegmy lungs.” Meirovici cautions that smoking can further irritate mucus membranes, making a cough or sore throat even worse. Passing around a joint amongst friends is a fun but quick way to spread germs, so be careful who you light up with.”

In addition to suppressing the immune system, cannabis users spread the disease by sharing joints, passing them from hand to hand and mouth to mouth.

Additionally, those high on marijuana products including joints, blunts, spliffs, vapes and other nicotine-THC cross-over products as well as edibles are more likely to engage in risky behaviors and lose motivation to practice healthy self- care, similar to those inebriated on alcohol.
